These knives have been a mainstay in Alaskan life for years and has been part of Eskimo life for almost 5,000 years. Early Eskimo versions had blades that were hand-crafted from polished slate with carved bone or ivory handles. New versions of the popular knife feature SS blades and decorative wood handles. Because of its shape, it is more effective at cutting, chopping and mincing because of its curved blade and because it places pressure directly over the blade rather than just at the end of a traditional handled knife blade.
